Venice T-Bone Collisions Attorney

Side-impact collisions, or t-bone crashes, in which one vehicle is struck on its side panel by the front end of a car traveling in the opposite direction, are one of the most dangerous types of car accidents in which a person can be involved. Furthermore, t-bone collisions are almost always violent and often involve multiple vehicles and so tend to cause both serious injuries and vehicular damage. Recovering after this type of crash can be difficult, especially for those whose medical bills and vehicle repair costs exceed the limits of their own insurance policies, so if you were hurt in a t-bone crash, you should speak with an experienced Venice t-bone collision attorney who can walk you through your recovery options.

Why are T-Bone Collisions So Dangerous?

T-bone collisions tend to have some of the most devastating effects on occupants of any type of car accident. This is largely attributed to general vehicle design, as the sides of a vehicle are relatively unprotected and unable to absorb impact. Unlike the front and rear of a vehicle, which have engine and trunk space, for instance, the sides of a vehicle have little cushion. Similarly, the sides of vehicles often lack the safety features that protect drivers and passengers in other types of accidents, such as airbags and bumpers. Furthermore, passenger doors are specifically designed to be light enough for passengers to open easily, which means that they cannot be composed of sturdy materials and so do not withstand impact very well. As a result, vehicle occupants who are t-boned are much more exposed to impact and so are more likely to be injured, even when the collision occurs at low speed.

How T-Bone Collisions Occur

T-bone collisions occur most often at intersections when a driver fails to stop at a stop sign, runs a red light, or fails to yield to oncoming traffic. Failing to correctly gauge the speed of traffic when turning left can also cause these types of collisions. Injured parties who can prove that their collision was the result of a traffic law violation or another form of negligence, could be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

T-Bone Collisions Result in Serious Injuries

T-bone-related injuries tend to be relatively serious, and more likely to affect a person’s chest, shoulders, and head. For instance, dislocated shoulders are common amongst t-bone accident victims, as is hearing loss, cracked ribs, and whiplash, followed by injuries to the hips, legs, abdomen, and pelvis. Chest and limb injuries are especially common amongst those sitting on the side of the vehicle that didn’t receive the main impact, who could sustain injuries after striking the body of the person in the seat next to them or by the upright pillar behind the door, where the seat belt is anchored.
